Men; Why Men Fear
If we are to know why men lack courage to do the works of God, we must know why they fear to do such works.
I speak of why men have fear; this post is not why men won’t do the will of God due to the love of sin.
Fear within a man can best be described this way; of not knowing the outcome of a matter or of knowing and fearing the repercussions.
And when it comes to doing the things that should be done in a godly manner the flesh is soon to find its self in fear. Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
As water is wet, men are made in the image of God, yet most men will find it hard to use the mind of Christ when weighing what to do for the Kingdom of God. For we have been given a gift and a curse.
The gift is the mind of Christ; 1 Corinthians 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ. The curse is the fall of man; Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Why Men Fear Men; I Feared Men
I myself, being a man, feared men. For there was a time that I could not even tell a man to not use vulgar language in my presence. This is called “Spiritual cowardice”.
There were many reasons for this, one was the loss of money. Some of these men were my customers. Another was the loss of favors, that gave me profit in many ways. And another was to not stir up things among men.
Yet there was a greater reason that I allowed swearing to take place around me, I didn’t fear the God that was inside of me more than the people who were around me.
And after examining the issue, I knew why I feared men more than God; I knew from within how little I really wanted to be Christ-like.
Because of this I would have always appeared clean but never been made pure. And the difference between clean and pure is this; Clean is made by adding something to men in most cases; it is on the outside. Pure is what is taken from someone and it is usually taken from the inside to the point that it transforms their outside.
I yearned for what the prophets of old had, for their oil came from heaven by faith and their lamp from good works.
Give me that oil, give me that faith and give my soul just a portion of what the prophets had. Was my cry and is.
Why Men Fear Men; To Overcome Fear One’s flesh Must Die
A man will not mortify his flesh by choice. For choice will never kill what allows a choice to be made.
The mortifying of the flesh comes by works and faith. For anyone can do works to quit a bad habit but no one can crucify the flesh without prayer. And prayer takes faith. Galatians 5:24 And they that are Christ‘s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
For a man must have faith to do what the spirit wills to do. And for this to happen there must be a drawing of ones soul to be Christ-like, works must come first. And then the faith is birthed, for hope is then seen.
This I know first hand; I didn’t like men to use vulgar language around me or my family. So I thought on the matter with Christ and prayed.
I hoped in the spirit to do the works of the spirit and by faith I know that anyone can see one day what they hope for today. For Christ strengthens us to do the will of God.
I was strengthened for God is my strength; Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Then by works I was encouraged, therefore my faith grew in Christ who strengthens us.
It was a fearful thing to ask a man to not use vulgar language in my presence, yet it brought joy, for it is better to serve God than man.
My flesh was weak but my spirit was willing. Mark 14:38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. As Christians, it is a sorrowful thing that not enough people experience the power of God through them. That is they do not experience what God can do within them through, that they would see others transformed around them.
The result of me sharing with that man; was that he was shamed and many others have been since. What was hard for me to do at first is now a simple thing. For my flesh has no place for vulgar language or any other life-style of sin and my spirit fights against it.
It is one thing to hate sin, another to not live in sin and another to fight sin.
The flesh is weak and it is all-powerful. It is weak to do the things of God. It is all-powerful to do the things that are evil.
For man does not hate what he does, when he sins. Until he overcomes through Christ that which he used to do. Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
For the flesh is strong, yes indeed it is. For when a man commits sin, is it not to death? James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Yet while doing sin a man will not fear death, unless he fells the sting of his conscience and is lead back to life through shame and repentance.
This is the repentance I speak of; repentance that will lead a man away from the sin that rules his flesh by choice. And makes his flesh suffer to cease from sin by doing the will God. Hebrews 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
How little we have struggled against sin.
Yet the sun has not set, and let it be said, of you; he struggled against sin and received the prize.
Men Fear Men; Due To Their Place With God
The rudder of a mans ship is set by who is in control of the helm and the helm is moved by what a man sees with his heart or hopes for in his spirit.
Men can know; the Bible, Church ethics, and good morals. Yet until they come Close to God, they will fear man over God. And this is how; they will weigh the consequences of the choice that is to be made, upon their own souls, home, community or church and then make a decision. 1 Samuel 15:24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
Man has within him the ability to do the greatest acts of obedience to God, yet fear is a wide gulf. And too often the river of fear that runs through a man separates him from the truth.
To the point that lies with become the truth to a man.
I was told lies by men in the church, leaders and pew sitters. I was told that, “Evil is good and good is evil.”
For is this truth, “That a man can’t help living a sinful life-style, if left on his own?”
Men Fear Men; Due To Their Place With The Holy Spirit
Man is separated from the truth by staying in the lie. And this is that lie; That man can serve God and walk in the flesh.
We have come to the day that it is openly taught that we cannot refute sin in any form. For does a man speak against ill-dressed women, those that believe that the Sodomites are in good standing with God, that men can lust after their neighbor’s wife or that we should not judge one another?
Our standing with the Holy Spirit, can be measured in this manner, how unmovable our convictions are when we are alone or with a thousand others. Luke 6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
Fear of men will do to a man a sorrowful thing; it will increase the strength of his flesh and weaken his spirit, to the point that he knows he is lying and will do it any ways.
Again this comes about by men not praying enough, for when men draw close to God the ways of this world are drawn from their souls. James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Yes prayer with God will give a man a single heart; Psalm 12:2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak. a single eye; Luke 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. A single soul; Deuteronomy 4:9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;
Yes, the duty of men is to be knitted to God. Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Men Fear Men; Due To Their Place With Christ
Among men this may not sound well, yet it is well with God. The choices of men will never lead a man to do the commands of Christ.
Choices are not callings and callings are not choices. Jim Elliot didn’t chose to die in South America, he was called to South America. Mr. Jafferies “The missionary to the Far East” didn’t choose to go to the Far East, he was called. I could go on and on.
Though this I know, Choices are made by men and callings come to men who seek those things that are from above. Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
If men desire with their hearts, minds and souls to love Christ. They will do what Christ asked them to do. Not by choice but out of love for the law, mercy and loving kindness that comes from the throne of God. John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
Choices will give an appearance of Godliness but dying to Christ will give a man the purity of Sainthood. Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
If a man is the bride of Christ, should he not have his whole body set on who he loves? For if a man sets his love on Christ he is given liberty in Christ. 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
A man’s freedom can be taken from him, but his liberty in Christ cannot. For spiritual liberty comes not by choice but by dying. Romans 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
In our fleshly death we are engaged to our groom in heaven, in our resurrection we are to act like a bride, preparing ourselves for the day that we shall be joined hand in hand with our groom.
For Christ set a pattern for us that we may know how to please the Father, receive mercy, grace, loving kindness and a multitude of things unimaginable. Amen
